What do Rotarians do when they hear that the schools in Ukraine are being bombed? They are People of Action. President Carol Marcotte of the Rotary Club of Saco Bay Sunset in Old Orchard Beach, would like to share that on October 18, 2022, Rotary District 7780 / The Rotary Club of Saco Bay Sunset was was able to secure $25,000 in grant funding the Project Bryukhovichi/Peace Shelter.  Single mothers and children from Ukraine, who have lost their husbands/fathers in the current war are being housed at the convent for the Congregation of the Sisters of St. Anne in Brzuchowice. They will stay there  for a long time, as some of these families no longer have their home, as they have been broken up. The old convent building, where nuns are taken in for the 30+ mothers and children has never housed so many people, hence the nuns need urgent help. One aspect that needs to be repaired immediatey is the leaky room-winter is setting in-in Ukraine. This need became a call to action for the Club Because of the funds secured the roof is being built “as we speak.” The Rotary Club of Saco Bay Sunset will be working in partnership with the Rotary Club of Lublin Centrum’s President Elect-Mateo Karczmarczuk.
