Sweetser Tour
May 30, 2023
The club had a great tour of the grounds at Sweetser in Saco.  Kelly (Executive Director) did a walk around the different buildings and what goes on there.  There are quite a few changes going on.  The tennis court will be revamped from 3 courts to 1 with room for basketball, 4 square, games along those lines.  The old playground will be torn down with new a new one installed.  The club has applied for a grant for wood chips.  Although there was no access to “The Spot”, looking in the windows was just as good.  Kelly said the kids are really enjoying it.  Kelly presented Leo with a framed hand painted picture one of the students painted.  There is a greenhouse on the property where the students have a chance to grow flowers, etc. and sell them at the Saco Grange sale. Continuing around the property you can hear the ducks, turkey, geese squawking.  There are alpacas, cows, and sheep.  Of course, the male peacock could not be out shown, he spread his beautiful feathers.  Kelly mentioned that they would love to have volunteers but there is a background check on each person to be completed beforehand.  She said that if you are interested in volunteering, let Tina know what kind of project or activity, you would like to do.  By giving them a list, it will help with some of the questions they may have.  Afterwards a few Rotarians met at McDonald’s for coffee, soda or milkshakes for wonderful fellowship time and a lot of laughs.
