The Rotary Club of
Saco Bay Sunset

Jessica from the Iris Network was our guest speaker.

This is their mission statement from their website www.theiris.org

Helping people with vision impairment or blindness in Maine since 1905

The Iris Network has a MISSION of helping people with vision impairment or blindness attain independence and community integration.

It is our VISION to build a world where no person is limited by vision impairment or blindness, and everyone is an advocate for eye health and the needs of people with vision impairment or blindness.

The Iris Network recognizes the diverse aspirations and abilities of people with vision impairment or blindness. Our services are based on respect for everyone's right to self-direction through informed choices. We believe that the education and integration of all individuals will result in a stronger society.

They work with people from age 14 on up, covering the whole state of Maine. Anyone under that age receives help from Catholic Charities.

One of their challenges is fundraising. Since people are not that familiar with the Iris Network, they are cautious about giving. In the works is walk on October 14th, no registration fee, purchase t-shirt, get pledges, social media. More information will be coming.

If you have any white sticks or talking watches, they can be donated to the Iris Network.
